I have live with a cracked windshield for several years. I just covered the cracks in the dash with a cover. but now it has cracked so badly that I can't even use the dash cover because the main dash has cracked so badly that large chucks of the plastic have broken out. It would be one thing if the original dash had been abused, but it happens when it is just sitting or sometimes while your driving sown the highway. I have owned 5 Dodge pickups in the past and have switched to a Chev. since this problem. I would not have believed that Dodge would be so blind to this problem! IT IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING FLAW.
Sorry Dodge, I found that the GMC is just as good of a truck and the Dash DOESN'T CRACK!

I purchased the truck in Jan. 06. It's a one-owner and it looked like it had been well taken care of. A couple of months later the dash started cracking. Soon afterward it was a mess and the windshield developed an annoying air leak. In my opinion a 5-6 year old vehicle should not have material failure of this magnitude.

I love my 2001 Ram Magnum truck and have taken excellent care to make sure the windows where cracked and window shield cover placed in window to keep heat down in vehicle. The crack started out small around window then it got worse. One morning I got in the truck and it had cracked from the window shield up to the section where the air bag located. When you go over any bumps in the road it rattles like it is going to fall apart. I have checked into replacing the top part of the dash and it cost over 1,000.00+. I am now researching to find a dash cover that does not cost over 1,000.00. I feel a recall should be placed on cracked dash boards for 2001 Ram Trucks. I have had no other problems with my truck. I can't believe that Dodge is not aware of this problem, they just blow it off because they
do not stand behind there product, Thats way many people in America don,t buy American cars, and that's why the auto companies are in bad shape today, the foreign car companies will be the leaders soon . (I hope not ) the American car companies must get a dashboard correct before they can move forward.

What a piece of junk. The truck does sit outside and I thought that may have has something to do with it cracking but after reading about everyone elses problem I see it is nationwide. It would always pop and snap in the winter while driving but never noticed any cracks at first. Then the hairline cracks appeared. Now it look like a road map with some of the pieces just hanging on. I cover it with a Dash Mat brand cover. better than nothing but the velco doesn't stick and it moves all the time with heat and cold. Sometimes the vents get cover and I dont get a good defrost. Never will I buy a Dodge again; because this wasn't the only problem. More on that somewhere else.

i have a nice dodge ram 1500 everything about the truck is nice no rust dings or dents. the inside is also nice no tears in the seats no stains, but the one thing that makes the truck look like sh*t is the dash. that is the one place people are going to see and when you have a big ass hole in the middle the ask WHAT HAPPENED my wife through her glasses on the dash (before she knew about the hole)and they went right down that was fun fishing them out i think dodge should recall this because theier are to many cracked dash boards to be a coincidence

I bought my truck used in 2007 and I noticed a couple of small cracks in the dash, I didn't think they would be a big deal. I was wrong i've had the truck for over a year now and the dash looks absolutely horrible. It looks like it has veins running through the dashboard. I keep my truck clean and have people come up to me all the time and tell me what a nice truck I have, but then friends and family get in and ask me what the hell happened to my dashboard! Dodge should totally have to eat this one, not only does it hurt the resale/trade-in value but it looks like crap!

Like everyone else on this site my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 has a cracked dash. Almost the entire thing has fallen in on itself. I've started removing the broken pieces and throwing them under my seats so that I don't get cut to pieces from flying debris if I ever have a crash. I've been looking for a match at pick and pull places but all I've seen have the same problem. It's sad that my truck is worthless now. If I could ever sell it I'd go and buy a F150. That may be why they will not put out a recall. I like the idea of my fellow San Antonio about parking just off of a Dodge Dealership with a sign. Just don't put it on the windshield where it blocks the view of the problem. You can use my POS anyday. The transmission has been acting up ever since I had to break hard to keep from hitting a kid who ran across the street in front of me but I just throw it into whatever gear it will drive in and start moving it back up to drive just like I was driving a manual w/o a clutch.

Ram 1500 3.9L

My dash cracked on the right side from the windshield to the outer edge. A few days later it had two more cracks of the same type in the middle of the dash. Then it cracked on the driver side and now the black cover around the instrument cluster is broken. Now there is a big hole in the dash right in front center. I tried to glue the parts back together just to fill the hole but the glue will not hold. I was going to use it for a cup holder but I had trouble seeing around the bottle of Coke. I gave up on that. With the fuel prices I can fix my dash or I can keep going to work but not both. If Dodge will not fix this problem I won't be buying another one (Dodge).

Well like everyone here my dash has also split wide open and all over, and I have sent emails to Chrysler about this problem and was told my warranty was out. I also have a 1990 dodge ram D150 that does not have 1 crack on the dash in the same heat and sun as the other truck. The problem is not only the dash pad / cover but also the plastic frame that supports the dash pad / cover underneath. my frame is also cracking, The best glue if you want to try to piece your dash back together that i have found is permatex plastic weld available at Advance Auto Parts epoxy that you mix together works great once bonded let sit for 4 hours and fully cure good as new. they also sell a plastic dash cover cap for under $200.00

We bought our Dodge 1500 pickup brand new in 2001 and the dash board started to crack everywhere just 3 years later, my husband has it looking so beautiful and in immaculate condition but the dash is the part that makes it look so awful. I am happy to say that I will NEVER purchase another Dodge vehicle as long as Chrysler Dodge refuses to stand behind their products. I am disgusted by their lack of intelligence! We also had to the replace the transmission at a cost of $3000. The A\C is going bad as well, I really think the cracked dash has effected the A\C in some way. I say drive around a Dodge dealership with signs that say that DODGE dashboards are defected and see what they do : ) I will try that first! I'll let you know what happens!

I bought my Ram in May of 2008 from the used vehicles department of my local Dodge dealer. The dash was cracked so bad that the dealer had a new dash installed for free (which was a BIG relief). I drove the truck for barely 4 months and now there are 2 cracks on the dash piece above the instrument panel. My interior is immaculate except for those 2 stupid cracks. I love Dodge trucks but it's ridiculous when this many people complain and have the same problem and still Dodge refuses to issue a recall. It's no wonder people aren't buying Dodge trucks now-a-days. I just hope they get their act together or else I'm afraid they may go under.

This is my third Dodge truck in my lifetime, but the only one newer than 80 something. My dash started cracking back in 2005, and I thought it was just Oklahoma sunshine doing it. I have a son-in-law that has an 01 ram too, and his dash has fallen to pieces. A couple of weeks ago my cracked up dash fell in on itself while I was driving down the road. There is now a hole (kind of diamond shaped) about 8 by 6 inches. Since I'm an Oklahoma Redneck, I decided to superglue all the cracks back together. That was a mistake. When I tried to flex the pieces back together for gluing, they broke out worse. The thing looks terrible, and after reading all these comments I know Dodge isn't going to stand behind this. My check engine light has been on for a year or so for no good reason, and the dash lights only work some of the time. Hmmmm... I wonder if the dash cracks have caused some wire failure? Anyway, Now I know the true meaning of "Ram Tough". When you're buying, they suggest a "Ram". When you want them to stand behind it, they say "Tough."

Shortly after I purchased my 2001 Dodge Ram used I was preparing to go to work one morning. As I got into my truck I noticed a crack in the dash that ran from the windshield to the front of the dash. The location of the crack is very close to the area of the dash where the passenger side airbag is located. As I looked at the dash more later in the day I noticed several cracks in the dash!! Now as of Sep the cracks have gotton progressively worse. I went online and tried to find a replacement dash. No luck what so ever. Then I noticed an article written in Motor Trend magazine with a video clip attached. The video was from a reporter in Florida who interviewed three people with the same problem that I have. During the video two of the people the reporter talked to had talked to their local Dodge dealer and were told that Dodge knows about this problem but has done nothing to fix it. I truly believe that Dodge needs to step up and fix the problem. I think that this problem could cause a safety concern. During the video one of the people had their whole dash cave in and due to that had experienced electrical problems with her lights, windows and stereo. My concern is that the crack in my dash close to the airbag could possibly rub on the wires causing the airbag to deploy and if someone is in the passenger side of my truck they could be injured by the airbag. Also the cost of replacing the deployed airbag is cost prohibitive. I hope that people can get Dodge to do the right thing and recall the affected trucks and fix them!!!

Yes The dashboard is cracked pretty bad and is a safety issue due to the sharp edges. Cleaning is not recommended because you can get cut and you risk the chance of making the cracks and holes worse.

After reading numerous problems with the RAM 1500 dashboards, I realized something. Dodge / Chrysler is not stepping up to the plate to fix or resolve the issues. Plus, I am not reading or seeing anything by Dodge / Chrysler that says they have fixed or rectified the issue with their new Dodge Trucks. F them. I like Dodge. My dash has craters / holes in it and when I went to the dealer, he basically told me tuff luck. And guess what? Dodge is not standing by their product. Oh and I don't use Armor All or any cleaner on my dash. I will be in the market for a new Truck by mid 2009 and Dodge lost a customer.

This dash should definitely be recalled by Chrysler. I called them and they were willing to pay half and have the dealership do it at warranty cost. It would hopefully end up costing less than $400 with the half off and warranty price. But, after one short call, Chrysler was very willing to pay for half which tells me that they know there is a manufacturer problem and LOTS of people or reporting it to them. They are just being cheap and refusing to recall it. And you wonder why we are having economy problems! Everyone wants to blame Bush, how about the rip-off manufacturers in this country that don't stand behind their product and deny problems.

Over the past winter a small crack opened (right side) just above the glove box/airbag. It now is cracked to the recess were the mounting hardware attaches the dash to the body.
Last month the left cracked and in a matter of days the whole left side broke up into several major fractures and is falling apart. The electronics are now exposed it gets worse every time I drive it. I spoke to the dealer who said Dodge will not do anything unless it is a safety issue. How can exposing the instruments and control to open air not be a safety issue. any rain or other moisture can now get into the dash. Open a soft drink that sprays a bit and you can sort the instrument cluster. I have read several complaints about it on this and other sites. How do you clean the windshield without risking electrical problems?

I noticed today that my 2001 Ram 1500 dash was also cracked on the right side above the glove box near the windshield. Seems like we should have some recourse as to get it fixed. We paid for it already and should expect it to last. Nothing looks worse than a cracked up shabby looking dash. And from what I read in the other complaints, The Dodge Boys don't give a hoot. Well, if they don't care for our problems, then I sure will not worry about buying another Dodge. And I hate that because I like Dodges best.

I love this truck and I have family that works for Chrysler, but I can't bring myself to purchase another Chrysler product because they won't stand behind their current ones. I have large holes in the dash where pieces have fell out while driving down the road. The local service manager says their is nothing they can do without a recall. I feel that this could possibly be a safety hazard since the dash is cracking all the way around the air bag. The price for a replacement is close to $1,000 dollars if you have the dealership do it. I work for the state of Florida and all of the state vehicles have the same problem. Thank you for allowing me to vent.

My truck was hardly 5 years old with less than 40,000 miles when the dash started cracking all over. Even the front bezel is cracked. I don't live in an area of extreme cold and this truck does not sit out in the sun for long periods unprotected. It is definitely a defect that dodge should own up to. I've been a MOPAR man all my life but I recently purchased a KIA for my wife. I wanted a quality vehicle from a company that backs their product. You can't get that from Dodge anymore.

I carried my truck to the dealership because it was having an air conditioner problem but the dash had about 3 cracks and I wanted to carry it to them because I felt like they would take the best care of the dash when they took it out. When I got the truck back the dash was falling to pieces. I consulted the shop foreman about the situation and he said that they did nothing to contribute to this problem and that it was a defect issue. I knew the owner personally and confronted him with the problem and he also told me it was a defect issue and I was one of several that had the same problem. He gave me a number to call the Chrysler Corp to try to get something done but they plainly told me I was SOL. I tried for months to get something done but can't get any results. Now I,m having the trans. rebuilt the second time in 8 months and I believe this will be my last one!

Dodge should issue a recall on these dash boards. I know of about 10 different people in my family and the same exact thing happen to them and after searching the net about this issue there has been numerous complaints. I have went all the way to the top with dodge on this issue and it does no good. They support there dashes and say there is nothing wrong with them. Thats a bunch of BS. I dont know what else can be done about this but wish someone would take it to a higher court some where and force them to replace all the dashes on everyones vehicle. There day will come one day for screwing people the way they do.

I too have an exploded dashboard on my 2001 Dodge 1500 reg cab. It started as cracks as they all do, and I chocked it up to weather or whatever. Then, upon returning from a deployment to Middle East I realized I returned to an exploded dashboard. I doubt that any type of cover will help as it will still be falling apart underneath the cover. I would like to have it replaced but would it really be worth having it replaced with another worthless dashboard (does anyone know of any after market replacements)? I will have to see what the dealership will do for me, but as it looks, I am not expecting much. Very disappointed owner of my first and last dodge.

I purchased this truck in January,2008 This wasn't your average work truck, it was a one owner, always garaged, never driven in the rain gem! The original owner was 86yrs old, and was so picky that he had all his vehicles professionally detailed once a month. I didn't even see the cracks when I bought the truck, but noticed them about a week later. There are two of them, both start at the base of the windshield and continue rearward. The largest is above the glovebox and is about 5" long. The other is only about 2" long and is above the instrument panel.
I checked to see if the edges still lined up perfectly, and they do. I plan on supergluing them shut. They should be invisible if I carefully line the edges up. I want to stop it before it gets worse.
I just found out tonight that apparently this was a common problem with these trucks. I was wondering how such an immaculately cared for truck could have recieved a cracked dash.

Here is another one. I left for another tour in Iraq only to return to my beautiful Dodge pickup turned into crap. My 2001 Dodge 1500 first got a small crack at the base of the windshield above the glove box about 3 years ago. This year it cracked all the way to the glovebox and another appeared from the base of the windshield to the top or the instrument panel and they get a little larger everyday. My truck is always garaged or has a sun screen in place. I went on line to see if I could find a dash pad but instead found that it seems that the Dodge pickups, especially 2000 to 2002 models, have a serious problem with the dashes. I am now in the process of the runaround. I went to my Dodge dealer and he told me to call the toll free no.( 1-800-992-1997} I called the no. and they told me to back to my Dodge dealer. I go back the first week and I'm sure that they are going to tell me that they can't make a decision it will have to come from higher up. Dodge may not consider it a safety issue but when it comes to customer satisfaction I'll bet that there will be a lot fewer Dodge customers the nest time around.

This looks to me like a significant defect in the material used to make the dashboard. I've never seen anything like it. I have several cracks running all the way from front to back on my dash and no real way to explain it other than that the material simply broke from normal ambient heating and cooling (and since I live in south Texas the cooling isn't really significant).

Dodge really needs to do right by this. I don't get the good feeling that a replacement dash would last either...

I bought this truck new in April 2001, I have kept in excellent shape from the beginning. The
I noticed a small crack in the dash last May and didn't think much of it but was annoyed, I chalked it up to it starting to show it's age. In recent months I've driven it less and I have been letting a friend drive it to work. I recently had the windshield replaced and as I was checking the work done I saw for the first time several large cracks all across my dashboard. I was shocked to say the least, this is unacceptable, I've taken good care of this truck in order to have a fair resale value when I want to trade it in for a new truck and I now have to deal with this mess that Dodge has apparently been aware of for some time and has ignored. With this Problem along with the lousy gas mileage, Dodge probably isn't going to be my next choice for a new truck. I'd lie to see Chrysler do whats right and fix this , not what's profitable.

I too have a dash problem that is making my truck look just plain Sh^tty. Overall the truck is Great, but the dash looks like a piece of swiss Cheese on a bad day. As for a recall I think this is a safety issue. Heaven forbid I get into an accident and have plastic Shrapnel from my dash seriously injure or take the live of one of my family (Wife and Children) or myself. I bought this truck used because I like to get what I pay for, but this is ridiculous. Even if I did get a good deal on it the way the dash looks I still feel like I have been SWcr3wed. Any way I have been looking at possible covers and replacements and it looks as if coverlay is a good viable option for mine and may others dash problem.

Cracks? You're worried about cracks in your 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 dashboard? Geez, I've got a 16-INCH WIDE HOLE in the top of my dashboard! Like everyone else reports, my problem started as a little crack several months ago. And now I have HOLE I CAN STICK MY HEAD THROUGH!

But I'm not counting on Dodge to recall or fix it. It's not a safety issue, so the government can't force them to fix it. And besides, why would they fix it for free when Dodge dealers can make almost $900 fixing it for us! My advice: Get out the glue and live with it. And if you don't want carpet on your dash (like me), order the fitted plastic cover from 1aauto.com for $89, plus shipping.

On the bright side, my 2001 Dodge has been the most problem-free, dependable vehicle I have ever owned.

I'm here to add my complaint to everyone else's. I bought my 2001 Ram 1500 4X4 in 2005 with 68000 miles on it. In the past and since I've had it, its been kept in fantastic condition. In summer of 2007, a small crack appeared by the vent on passenger side. A friend tried to push down a bit so it wouldn't stick up as much and a chunk about 1 in in diameter broke off. Since then, a crack has continued to find its way across the whole dash. It is very disgusting looking. The only thing I can think of to make it look better is to cover it with a dashboard pad or carpet. I am very disappointed because the truck runs like a top and nothing else is frustratingly wrong.

We bought our truck brand new in 2001. It has been a wonderful truck until last year when we noticed a few cracks on the dash. In the last 4 months it has turned into a mess. Chunks of the dash are breaking off. It rattles terribly when you drive down the road. We only have 59,000 miles on the truck. It has been under a carport ever since we bought the truck. We have two friends with the same year model truck and theirs are both beginning to do the same thing. We called the company but they seem unconcerned. We know that many people all over the country are reporting the same problem. The technician at the dealership said that he has replaced several with the same problem. Why is Dodge not recalling these trucks? We have owned at Chyrsler Concorde, Dodge Dynasty & now this truck. We are looking at buying a new Charger - but not if Dodge doesn't make this right.

We also have a 2001 Dodge Ram. The truck is great with the exception of the dash, which started out with cracks and quickly became chunks falling out of the dash. Everyone who gets into the truck wants to know what happened to the dash. Good question. No amount of Armor-All or window shades has helped the problem. It's quickly crumbling like an old building. This is so very annoying and an eyesore. Dodge really should step-up and do something about this problem. It's obvious that it is not owner error. There is definitely something wrong with these dashboards and Dodge should do the right thing and issue a recall on these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I PURCHASED MY TRUCK NEW ON FEB. 8TH 2000 BUT IT WAS A 2001 MODEL. WITHIN 2 MONTHS I HAD THE WINDOWS TINTED DARK & STARTED KEEPING A SUNSHIELD IN IT. NOT TO MENTION, IT STAYS PARKED IN THE SHADE. IT IS ALMOST 8 YEARS OLD & IN PERFECT CONDITION OTHER THAN THE DASH STARTING TO FALL APART & I ONLY HAVE 52700 MILES ON IT. THIS MAKES ME SICK TO SEE THIS HAPPENING WHEN YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR POSSESSIONS. NOW IF I TREATED IT LIKE CRAP THEN IT WOULD BE NO BIG DEAL.I KNOW SOMEONE OUT THERE HAS TO BE A LAWYER THAT MAY WANT TO START A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST CHRYSLER ON BEHALF OF EVERYONE.

as every other complaint i have read, mine too started with a hairline crack in the dash around 05 now 08 it has grown into a hole. this was a concern when i bought the my first vehicle so i asked what is the best preventative measure, some said not to use any armour all type products and some said to use it. should we not just have beef with dodge, but also car product companies?

It started with a small crack where the vent hole is for the defrost then it moved up towards the passenger where everyone can see it and all they can say is daaaam what happened to your dash, now it's right in front of my face where i have to see it every time i drive . In fact i now have a hole in the dead center of my dashboard big enough i can put my hand in it.With as many complaints that i have read and as much as people pay for these vehicles dodge should issue a recall for sure. P.S My engine light had to be reset by the dealer cause my mechanics diagnostic computer couldn't find any problems, now two months later the engine light is back on,by the way the dealership put it on there own machine before they reset it and found nothing. This is truley the first and and last dodge truck i will ever purchase.

I thought I was the only one with a cracked dash!! Now that I know
this is not an isolated incident... I will definitely complain loudly for the
world to hear... Like everyone else's... my dash crack started small and has
grown to HUGE proportions! Listening to everyone else it is only going
to get worse! So what would the next step be to get it replaced?
(For free obviously).

i purchased my ram in dec. of 2001 used with only 29000 miles and took extra good care of it , when it had about 48000 miles it started to show a hairline crack that in about 1yrs time turned into a lot cracks and busted places that could not be stopped. i always had my best look out of mopar products and always thought they had the sharpest and toughest look on the market , i am very disappointed in the dash on my truck because that is the only problem i have encountered so far and believe that someone besides the customer that keeps chrysler open should accept responsibility for the defect

my 01 dodge 1500 dashboard has holes in it the size of footballs. It stared with small cracks and turned to holes within months. the dealer will not do anything about it. you should not have to replace a part like that on a 01. my 1969 ford still looks great and never has been changed out. WAKE UP DODGE IF YOU WANT REPEAT BUYERS

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram Sport 1500 it is in GREAT shape, low miles BUT the dashboard is cracking from end to end, top to bottom, I googled recalls and ended up with pages of complaints just like mine, you would think after SOOOO many people complain about the same truck with the same DEFECT that Dodge would do the right thing and issue a recall on their vehicle!!!! I am very disappointed in Dodge. I always loved Dodge until they didn't want to stand behind their product!!!

I just had a State Farm guy out to look at it and he checked for recalls which there are none. He did get an OEM price for me of $194.00 and said it looked pretty simple to install. He said the S.F. would not pay for it because it would be considered U.V. damage. He also said it's not right that it should have went this soon. It still pisses me off because the sunglass holder door in the above console has also quit working due to the plastic pressure clip that keeps it closed has broken off AGAIN! I replaced it once already. Maybe I should get a case price.

This is horrible! My red 2001 dodge quadcab slt with tinted windows(all original) has been kept in really good shape for now being 7yrs. old.It now has 98,000miles on it,though it doesn't show it.I bought this truck 9months old from the dealer and no cracks, but in 06 i just happened to look at the windshield and there is that huge long crack from the defrost vent to the middle of my dash.I am really upset and I know Dodge/Chrysler should replace it,but i know they wont because there are 60 complaints on this board alone before me. But I won't ever buuy Dodge again! You guys ......well you stink!

The crack in the dash was small early years on the right side to the front and then later on my wife notice that the dash was cracked a little more and now it is cracked all over. The fist crack was two years ago and now it is all over so I looked for recalls and found that their is others so I will check with dodge.

myself as well as 2 other people i work with all 2001 Dodges have had the same identical problems cracked dash(as in chunks totally falling out) transmission problems (as in complete rebuilds),never in my 30 plus years of driving and car ownership have i seen suck a trend for recalls that have gone unacknowledged by a major car company. have never had transmission trouble out of the cars I've owned in the past an most i drove 200,000 plus miles.

I bought the truck new in 2001. Bought the "7yr/100,000 mi
bumper to bumper extended warranty". I noticed the dash starting to crack at the defroster vent before the "warranty" went out.I called the dealership to get it replaced and was told that it was not covered.
I think I'll not buy another Dodge truck if this what they call "quality".
I have already had the transmission rebuilt @18,000 miles and
had to put up with a dealership who could not find a drive ability problem if it was up their rectum!! I'm thinking "High dollar,Low quality.
Dodge needs to get off it's high horse and recall this crap. They should also refund people who had the money to buy replacements
as long as they have their receipts. A dash should last longer than a set of tires!! This kind of junk is what ruined Chrysler in the 60's
@ 70's. The engineer who designed this and approved this should be drawn and quartered. As they tell kids "CRACK KILLS"

There needs to be a recall on this vehicle. We called the dealership and they told us it could cost up to $700.00 to replace. There are a lot of these Rams on the road with the same looking cracked dashboard. FIX THE PROBLEM.

my son, my son-in-law and myself all own these trucks and all have a cracked dash. this is definitely something dodge should stand up and take responsibility for. truck owners should not have to pay for something to be repaired on their vehicle, when its obviously a manufacturers defect. we have contacted dodge and have all gotten the same response: "there hasn't been a recall, so theres nothing we can do for you". i know none of us will buy a truck from dodge again, not only because of the issues with the dash, but because of the poor excuse for customer service. and w
